The SOAP Gallery would like to invite you to participate in “Brag”, a collaborative art project and installation presented by NEXT Best Art.
In 1980, in Youngstown, Ohio, as a response to the devastation of an economic disaster that settling even still, a campaign was launched urging citizens to “Brag a Little About Youngstown”. Mayor George Vukovich stated that “… it will give the people something more than just hope and faith to deal with. It’s going to give them the realization that there’s something happening here, and they could be a part of it.”
Something IS happening here, and everyone CAN be a part of it. We want YOU to be a part of our New Year’s Resolution for a better, more positive City of YOUngstown.
Brag a little. Maybe you’re proud to live in a place with such dedicated teams as Youngstown CityScape and Students Motivated by the Arts. Maybe you helped the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation clean up, or you think Avalon Downtown has the best pizza in America. Maybe you fall in love again every time you visit Mill Creek MetroParks’ Fellows Riverside Gardens.
Put it on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper. Notebook, copy, watercolor, even a paper bag. Type it out, write it out, draw it, paint it, make a collage, photoshop a meme, quickly scrawl it with the crayon under your couch, and get it to us, and then join us on First Night Youngstown for a very special one night only event.
We want to have our walls completely covered, so click that LIKE and SHARE button, tell a friend, call your Mom (she misses you), or watch for Project Days, where you can come down and make your submission.
Open to anyone, anywhere, with any experience or skill level. Submissions will be utilized in an additional way, and must be 8 1/2 x 11 inches, with no wood, metal, plastic, etc – just paper. Please note your name on your submission for acknowledgement.
***This event was cancelled due to inclement weather***
