NEXTBestArt is pleased to announced the results of their annual board expansion, with two new members coming in for 2018.
The first addition is RJ Thompson, tenured Assistant Professor of Graphic + Interactive Design in the Department of Art at Youngstown State University. Since first coming to the City, RJ has worked on a number of programs focusing on economic development through brand and identity. Beginning with the creation of Youngstown Design Works, connecting the University design program with local business to provide affordable brand and website development, to developing the City of YOU campaign, and most recently playing a significant role in acquiring a $100,000 Our Town grant for creative placemaking here in Youngstown, RJ has helped to demonstrate the relationship and impact that the arts have in contributing to and informing local economies.
Also coming on board is Glenniece Bodo, Special Events Coordinator at the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Over the past 2 years, Glenniece has demonstrated a tremendous level of dedication and commitment to community outreach, working directly with individuals in a variety of difficult situations, as well as finding solutions by connecting creative and non creative organizations in ways that are as mutually beneficial to each other as they are to the community as a whole.
Last, but not least, the Board voted to move Board member Bill O’Rly from Board Member to the role of Manager. Bill is a multidisciplinary artist, and co owner of The SOAP Gallery in Downtown Youngstown. He first served NEXT as an auxillary Board member in 2014, and was appointed fully as part of last year’s expansion. Bill has played an important part of establishing the role of NEXTBestArt as the organization moves forward, contributing signficantly to multiple projects and partnerships.
NEXTBestArt strives to work within a goal-oriented process that provides regular, tangible results while maintaining both quality and transparency. The organization announces expansion efforts annually, towards the beginning of the year, with changes finallized by April. If you or someone you know is passionate about the arts, and driven to provide results, the next round of applications will be announced in January of 2019.
